All the systems from that game return, but with greater refinement. There's a really enjoyable time attack mode which starts off seemingly easy and gets increasingly frantic as you realize you don't really have as much time as you thought; there's multiple difficulties as well. The main gimmick is a shield which blocks shots but also turns them into a rotating damage-dealing swarm of purple things. Drop your shield and the purple gems grant you points, which increase over the course of the game -- it's a fun mechanic and offers a smart way to do risk-reward, since the shield can also be used to cheat your way through some difficult curtains if you haven't worn it down trying to net extra gems for your scoreboard. Also the music is good! Buy this game. A really solid traditional vertical STG from Qute with an incredible soundtrack by Yousuke Yasui. Includes "Original" and "Advanced" modes with multiple difficulties for both. Definitely worth picking up. Wonder pack includes JUDGEMENT SILVERSWORD, which is also neat as heck so go for it. Without a doubt one of the Top 10 shmups ive played. No, its not as pretty like Crimzon Clover but dont let that stop you from enjoying this fantastic shmup. +Excellent 90's arcade style soundtrack gets me pumped everytime+Optional DLC arranged soundtrack is fantastic too+Difficulty is really well done. Its challenging but not like a bullet hell shmup. *Btw this is NOT a bullet hell shmup*. +The progression system is laid out extremely well, which in my book is a HUGE plus! (Some shmups just give you unlimited continues from the start which to me kills the experience of challenge). +Even at full price ($14.99) there is a LOT of game here+Achievements are fun and controller support works perfect. -Nothing really bad about it, some people may complain the graphics are somewhat simplistic but the gameplay is what counts here. And that juicy soundtrack.9/10. If you care about these type of games in even the slightest, this is a must purchase. In what seems to be a common trend among people who are first exposed to this game, I was initially ready to dismiss it however many years ago before it initially arrived on Xbox 360, based on the seemingly underwhelming visuals and rudimentary looking gameplay. Then, I played it, and it demonstrated how wrong I was about it.I now consider it one of the best shmups to have come out in the modern era, and my favorite of that wave of 360 releases aside from G.Rev's Strania. Yes, it's a relevantly simple game on paper, unadorned by any of the complicated scoring trappings of your average CAVE shmup and it's contemporaries, or the elaborate weapon systems of more “traditional” shmups, but the beauty of this game lies in the execution. I like to think of it as a modern day Zanac (which is one of my favorite games of all time), where underneath the mediocre aesthetics and muted presentation, lies a game full of depth and complexity. A shmup that was crafted with such quality, it became one of the standout examples of excellence in the genre. On top of that, much has already been said about the high quality of the soundtrack. Youskue Yasui, usually does good work, and I think this is still his hottest soundtrack to date. “Survive” in particular has been a regular jam of mine since it was first released. Get this game.. Without a doubt one of the Top 10 shmups ive played. And that juicy soundtrack.9/10. ESCHATOS may very well be the best shmup made in the past five years. Despite a small library, Qute is already a powerhouse in the genre and manages to stand next to some of the best (i.e. Cave). Having played the 360 version, Degica did this release right and things feel as smooth as ever. Gameplay is still amazing, controls are tight, and the soundtrack really puts it over the top. With this release, ESCHATOS easily becomes the best shmup on Steam and deserves your time.. Initially released in 2011 for Xbox 360 and then ported to PC (Steam) in 2015, Eschatos is a modern vertical shoot'em up that is a spiritual sequence of the classic Judgement Silversword but with much more modern production values. The gameplay and control scheme is very similar to its predecessor: you have two types of weapons, being one more concentrated and long-range and other more spread shot, but short-range as well as the shield. Both the weapons and the shield are activated by pressing buttons on the controller. The gameplay offers good challenge and it's fun. The graphics are ok, but the great highlight of this game in my opinion is the great soundtrack beautifully crafted and pleasant to hear, making this game a truly immersive experience. Eschatos is therefore more a good shmup born in the harvest of the seventh generation of consoles. One of the best, if not the best shmups on Steam. Probably the best vertical shmup made in the last 5-10 years.BUY IT.. [FIRST IMPRESSIONS]I'll get software issues out of the way first - Degica seem to have done a good job with the PC port here, there are all of the screen resolution and graphics options you would expect from a PC title, keyboard and controller support is available, and it is running smoothly on my PC with no issues so far (however keep in mind my PC is pretty powerful, I cannot speak for those with weaker machnes). Now onto the game itself? I have been waiting a while to be able to get a chance to play this game, and so far in my first couple of trial runs it has not disappointed one bit. Eschatos is a spiritual successor to the Wonderswan STG Judgment Silversword and as such is a vertically-scrolling wave-based shooter, with a hectic pace and lots of cool boss fights. There is a long-range straight shot for dealing with more powerful enemies, and a short-range spread shot for dealing with the waves of weaker enemies (popcorn, "zakos" or whatever else you would like to call them) which will swarm at you from all directions. The game is fairly high in its bullet count however the game goes lengths to not feel like a "generic" bullet hell title that you may see from other developers. All of this is backed up by a sharp presentation with hectic perspective changes and a stunning retro-inspired soundtrack by one of my personal favourite videogame OST composers - Yousuke Yasui. So overall I would recommend this title based on my experiences thus far.
